The Welsh Springer

The Welsh Springer is a strong, merry, active spaniel easily identified by it's rich red and white coat and comparatively short ears. They are not split between working and show strains so they are still classed as a dual purpose breed. The Welsh Springer can be traced back with certainty to the 18th century as a separate and distinct variety in Wales and were originally bred for springing game for the falcon but now the gun. In 2014 315 Welsh Springers were registered with the KC as opposed to 11,000 English Springers which shows why they are not as well known as their cousins. They make excellent shooting companions and are very thorough were game scent is present
