The American Cocker
The American cocker spaniel. Developed in the US in the 19 th century from the English cocker primarily to hunt, point, flush and retrieve quail and woodcock. Here in the UK the late Mr Dick Wylde was the first to make 2 of his bitches full champions in 1970's. The American cocker should be a merry ,alert friendly little dog, eager to work and please. General appearance should be a compact sturdy dog with a gently sloping top line showing a "melting expression". Silky coat , well feathered but not excessive. They are a dual purpose spaniel competing successfully in the field, agility , obedience, and fly ball. They make good ,steady shooting companions and very good tracking dogs .
